Eastland Puppy Mill Seizure. During the last week of February, over 100 dogs were seized from suspected puppy mill in Eastland Texas. Forty-five of those dogs were cocker spaniels. CSRA worked with local officials and on the ground volunteers to get ALL of those cockers into rescue. About half of the dogs were taken into foster in Austin. The rest were passed on to two of our sister groups from Houston--Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas and Houston Cocker Rescue and also Animal Companions in Pipe Creek. All of the cockers found rescue, and that is truly amazing.
Here are some photos of the handoff as dogs arrived from Eastland to Austin.
CSRA took in 22 dogs and puppies. At least two of the adult dogs are due to deliver puppies any day now so our actual intake number will be increasing. Our group includes two nursing moms with litters of 3 and 4 and two bottlefed puppies. All of these pups, including the moms will be available for adoption later this spring.
For now, we are working on rehabilitating and vetting all of the adult dogs and the puppies as they get old enough. We’re making sure that everyone is comfortable and their health needs are taken care of. ..and maybe, just maybe, we’d like to bring a little spark of life back into their eyes. These are dogs who have endured some serious neglect: poor nutrition, no vet care and really unsanitary conditions, many of them kept in cages their whole lives and simply used for breeding, litter after litter. They're tired. They're scared. Their entire existence has just been upended and they don't know what's going on. We‘re happy to be able to play a part in making the rest of their lives one that’s worlds away from what they came from. We will do everything in our power to make sure they never suffer again.
If you are not already “friends” with us on Facebook, you can “like” us and get to see many daily updates of how the dogs are doing, including pictures and a live puppy cam (click on the Facebook icon on our homepage). And of course, check back here for updates as well.
We appreciate any donations for these dogs--our current needs include
We are busy, but very very proud of the Village that has come forth to help these neglected little souls, including some folks who were moved to foster for the very first time, and those who gave up many hours on a cold and rainy February day to help transport and coordinate. Thank YOU.
CSRA would also like to publicly thank RedRover Responders, Petsmart Charities and the Eastland County Authorities who worked with us to get these dogs into our care. You do good work.
