Franklin

My friend found Franklin running down interstate 10 and picked him up. I do a lot of volunteer work for rescue dogs so they called me and I took him in. I first got Franklin the night of 11/14. He was pretty scared and very timid. I made an appt with my vet first thing on 11/15. We found out he had a pretty bad bladder infection and prolonged ear infections, not to mention being covered in fleas and ticks. The vet put him on antibiotics and a special diet for bladder infection and packed his ears. We also got him up to date on shots and started him on heartgard and frontline. By Tuesday night he was a different dog :) Wednesday morning came and he somehow managed to squeeze through the fence during his potty break. As you can imagine I was completely frantic and devastated. See, we live in a pretty big neighborhood and the lots are pretty big with wooded areas so it it not conducive to losing a dog. I looked everywhere for him and visited ACS everyday trying to find him. We started getting calls that he had been sighted in the neighborhood but ran every time someone called for him. So I set up a large trap during the hours of 4pm-7pm and checked it every 20 minutes but no luck. The night before Thanksgiving I closed the trap as I did not want any animals trapped overnight. Thanksgiving morning I went to move the trap to another place he was sighted and I couldn't believe but there was Franklin in the trap. Talk about being thankful on Thanksgiving!! I could not believe this sick dog survived the woods, rain and cold for an entire week! He is back with us finishing up his meds, diet and working on some tricks. He knows "sit" and almost has "down" down :)

Franklin is about 4 years old, very sweet and shy at first but after a few days he is your best friend and will not leave your side. He is pretty laid back but gets very excited when it's dinner or walking time. He is 90% potty trained. As far as other dogs are concerned he seemed a little hesitant and a little protective of us when we introduced him to our dogs. We plan to help get him acclimated more and even send him to doggie day camp. I do not yet know his behavior around children as we have not had the opportunity to observe him interact with them. The only issue with Franklin is he loves to follow his nose so he needs a backyard that is secure so he is not able to escape. ~Rachel, foster mom
