Herby is a very small low energy cocker spainel. He is not a barker so would be great in an apartment. He prefers laying in your lap to any other activity. Herbs does not mind being upside down, right side up, or with his head hanging off your lap even as long as he is in your lap and you are petting him. His coat is very soft so it is easy to give him the pats he lives for.
Herby does have special needs. He has juenile cataracts in both eyes. According to his eye specialist, he does have functional vision in both eyes. He cannot see objects up close. Nor can he tell how big things are. This makes Herby hesitant to go through doorways, steps or in darker rooms especially after being in bright sunlight. His eyes need time to adjust. Because he does not see up close you need to talk to Herby to prevent startlling him. Herby needs a person or people who are patient, calm and can accommodate his sepcial needs. In return he will love you fully with all his heart and soul.
Herby likes children but would do better with older children who can accommodate his special needs. He lives with 4 other dogs in his foster home but would prefer not having to share his lap with other dogs. Now if there were plenty of laps for him to lay in I think other dogs would be ok. He just really wants a lap to lay in of all his own.
If you are looking for a high energy palyful dog Herby is not your boy. If you just want a quiet companion to watch tv with or sleep in the big bed with then Herbs would be a wonderful dog for you. Perhaps given more time he will play with toys more. Right now he will pick one up and carry it from inside to outside. Or around the aisles of Petsmart.
He is fully vetted, housetrained, crate trained, likes car rides and walks well on a leash. Did I mention how much he enjoys laying in your lap and being petted?
