Sophie

Pretty Sophie is only 5 years old but has suffered from chronic ear infections nearly her entire life. Over time, the infections and irritation caused the tissue in her ears to thicken and harden, further restricting access of air, sound, and medication to her ear canal. This change is usually irreversable and requires a surgery called an ablation to provide relief. The surgery offers a truly miraculous improvement in the quality of life for the dogs who need it. Imagine what an incredible gift it must be to have all those years of headaches, pain, intense itching, and pressure... suddenly relieved!

Sophie had her first ear ablation surgery on Monday 12/4. She had a little setback on Thursday and had to pay a visit to the ER to have her drains unplugged, but is doing better now. Recovery from surgery takes 6-8 weeks during which time Sophie will need to keep on a strict regimin of antibiotics and wear an e-collar so she can't scratch at the area. After the first ear has healed sufficiently, then she can have her second ear surgery.

Sophie's ears were actually in worse shape than McCoy's (the worst that Dr Lewis has seen... and he's seen quite a few) so the estimate for both surgeries and the aftercare comes in around $1500. If you would like to help sponsor the cost of Sophie's care, you can do so using the Chip-In badge below. Please keep a good thought for miss Sophie and her caregivers as she recovers from this surgery and prepares for the next.
