In 2018, Panda was found living on the street with a German Shepard but aside from that, we know nothing of his background. He walked around with his little tail tucked and hid in the corner of his blanket or under his foster mom’s bed. He was very nervous, afraid of loud and sudden noises, and refused to allow anyone to pet or touch him. The only way we could get him to eat was to place the food outside on the patio and walk away. We quickly realized that Panda was going to be a “project,” and that he would require time to learn to trust people. Fast forward to 2024 – Panda has flourished in his foster home. It has been 6 years of baby steps for this “forever foster.” Though he is still skeptical of strange people, he no longer runs away or hides. Since the loss of 3 other dogs in the home, Panda has taken on the responsibility of being his foster mom’s protector and barking when things seem strange. On an ordinary day, Panda now seeks out love and pets from his foster mom and jumps up in her bed to wake her in the morning when he is ready to go outside. He loves the company of other foster dogs, always quick to show them the ropes when they arrive. His favorite pastimes include napping near his foster mom, getting “treat treats,” doing zoomies in the backyard, playing with his toys, or just lying on the patio watching the day go by and letting the breeze blow through his hair. Panda’s story matters because CSRA refused to give up on him. Through the support of CSRA/SA donations, Panda benefits from their ongoing care and support. And as a bonus, Panda has experienced an abundance of love and compassion that he so much deserves. “Panda Bear” has come a long way since he first arrived, and he continues to progress every day. ~ Jackie, foster mom
